New Jersey Coppers and a St. Patrick Gold Farthing dominated the top positions at the Heritage Auctions sale.

Rare Colonial and early American coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) from the iconic Donald G. Partrick Collection were the top lots in a Heritage Auctions sale held on St. Patrick’s Day.

The top lot was the 1787 New Jersey Copper WM Above Plow (Maris 62.5-r) graded NGC F 15 BN (lot 15105). The capital letters “WM” on the obverse between the plow and the horse head are likely the initials of New Jersey Copper engraver Walter Mould. Believed to be the only surviving example of this variety, the notable coin realized $264,000.

A unique circa 1670 Gold St. Patrick Farthing graded NGC AU Details (lot 15006) was another highlight of the sale. Copper versions of the St. Patrick halfpennies and farthings were used by colonists in New Jersey, but this is the only gold version known to exist. The intriguing farthing realized $96,000.
