NGC Registry Featured Set: Soccer

The FIFA World Cup kicks off in a few weeks, with the United States, Mexico and Canada serving as hosts. So we made it our goal this month to spotlight an appropriate NGC Registry set: SD_MexCoins' Mexico, 20th Century 100 Pesos (Silver PF) 1979-1992, which is one of three 100% complete sets in the Silver 100 Pesos, 1979-1992, Proof category.

The set begins with two 1985MO World Cup Football coins: one that shows a soccer player heading a ball near a goal and another that shows a soccer ball speeding past indigenous iconography. It then continues with two 1986MO World Cup Football coins, one depicting a goalkeeper and the other featuring two soccer balls.

Each of these four coins is graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo, and three of them are "Top Pops," meaning they are unsurpassed in the NGC Census. The set contains nine other coins, six of which are dated 1992. This includes four with Aztec themes, three of which are graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo, putting them at the top of the NGC Grading Scale.

This set won a Top Ranked NGC Registry Award in 2019, and is currently in second place. It is the highest-ranked set in this category to feature images of all 13 coins.
