Rare NGC-certified Chinese ‘Pavilion’ Dollars Offered in Goldberg Auction

Two vintage Chinese silver coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are in the spotlight in an Ancient and World Coins sale presented by Ira and Larry Goldberg Auctioneers. Currently, online bidding is underway for these coins and other NGC-certified rarities and will conclude on April 13, 2022.

Commonly known as “Pavilion” Dollars because of the building on the reverse, a China 1921 Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 62 (lot 68) leads the sale with an estimate of $150,000. Minted during the presidency of Hsu Shih Chang, this variety features a bottom legend and two flowers on each side of the reverse.

The auction features another 1921 Pavilion Silver Dollar, this one graded NGC AU Details (lot 69). This coin is from a variety distinguished by the lack of a bottom legend and flowers, as well as a plain edge (instead of a reeded edge). It has an estimate of $100,000 to $120,000.

• a China (Undated) Kwangtung Fantasy Mule Silver Tael graded NGC XF 45 (lot 93), with an estimate of $20,000 and up
• a China (1882-dated) Kirin Fantasy Tael graded NGC XF 45 (lot 89), with an estimate of $10,000 to $12,000
