NGC-certified German New Guinea Gold Coin Featured in Taisei Auction

The April sale also features rare coins from Japan and elsewhere certified by NGC.

Rare coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) from many countries are being offered in an auction presented by Taisei Coins and the Royal Mint. The Tokyo Coin Auction 2022 is being held in Tokyo on April 29, 2022.

One spectacular lot is a German New Guinea 1895A 10 Marks graded NGC PF 65 Cameo (lot 642). Featuring the iconic Bird of Paradise design, the coin is pedigreed to the NGC-certified Paramount Collection. It has a starting price of ¥8,000,000 (about $64,700).

Another top lot in the sale is a Japan M3(1870) Yen graded NGC Proof AU Details (lot 70), With a starting price of ¥5,000,000 (about $40,400), the coin was struck just two years after the Japanese had acquired decommissioned Hong Kong mint equipment and established their first modern minting operation at Osaka. The Meiji government of Japan officially adopted the yen in June 1871.

In addition to the coins highlighted here, the auction includes rarities from China and Great Britain, such a Chang Tso Lin Dollar pedigreed to the legendary Kann Collection and a Henry VII Sovereign hand-struck in gold.   • a German New Guinea 1894A 5 Marks graded NGC PF 63 (lot 641), with a starting price of ¥1,500,000 (about $12,100)
  • a US 1898 $10 graded NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo (lot 768), with a starting price of ¥1,200,000 (about $9,700)
  • a US 1925-D $20 graded NGC MS 65 (lot 771), with a starting price of ¥1,200,000 (about $9,700)
  • a Japan M9(1876) 50 Sen graded NGC MS 62 (lot 128), with a starting price of ¥1,000,000 (about $8,100)
  • a St. Helena 2021 Gold 5 Pounds – Three Graces graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (lot 653), with a starting price of ¥1,000,000 (about $8,100)
  • a US 1891 $2.50 graded NGC PF 65 Ultra Cameo (lot 760), with a starting price of ¥1,000,000 (about $8,100)
  • a US 1901 $2.50 graded NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo (lot 762), with a starting price of ¥1,000,000 (about $8,100)
