Rare NGC-certified British Rarities Impress in Taisei Sale

Many British rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) were featured in an auction at the Tokyo International Coin Convention (TICC). The first-of-its kind joint sale, which was organized by Taisei Coins and The Royal Mint, concluded April 29, 2022.

NGC is honored to have certified several of the rare coins in this auction that were originally struck by The Royal Mint, a storied institution established in 886 during the reign of Alfred the Great. These coins were encapsulated with special commemorative labels honoring The Royal Mint, which is one of NGC’s Strategic Partners.

A top lot in the sale encapsulated with a special NGC label was a Great Britain 1817 Three Graces Silver Pattern Proof graded NGC PF 65 (lot 483). This example of the famous coin, known for its depiction of Ireland, England and Scotland as female figures on the reverse, realized ¥29,900,000 (about $230,000).

Other NGC-certified British coins in the sale included:

• a Great Britain 1839 Plain Edge Sovereign graded NGC PF 66★ Ultra Cameo and encapsulated with a special Royal Mint label (lot 493), which realized ¥12,650,000 (about $97,200)
• a Great Britain 1871 Sovereign - St. George, Plain Edge graded NGC PF 65 Ultra Cameo and encapsulated with a special Royal Mint label (lot 510), which realized ¥9,775,000 (about $75,100)
• an England undated Cliche Silver Pattern graded NGC MS 61 and encapsulated with a special Royal Mint label (lot 450), which realized ¥8,625,000 (about $66,300)
• a Great Britain 1910 Silver Pattern Crown - Plain Edge graded NGC PF 63 Matte and encapsulated with a special Royal Mint label (lot 525), which realized ¥8,625,000 (about $66,300)
• a Great Britain 1887 5 Sovereign - No Initials graded NGC PF 62 Cameo (lot 514), which realized  of ¥7,475,000 (about $57,500)
• a Great Britain 2020 Gold 500 Pounds – The Great Engravers, Three Graces graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (lot 567), which realized ¥6,900,000 (about $53,000)
• an England (1594-96) Elizabeth I Pound graded NGC AU 58 and encapsulated with a special Royal Mint label (lot 442), which realized ¥6,325,000 (about $49,000)
• a Great Britain 1935B Trade Dollar Restrike graded NGC PF 62 (lot 528), which realized ¥6,325,000 (about $49,000)
