NGC-certified Rare Chinese and English Coins in Goldberg Sale

The NGC-graded rarities include a silver Chinese coin with an estimate of at least $350,000.

Over 600 vintage coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®), including rarities from China and Great Britain, are showcased in an upcoming sale presented by Goldberg Auctioneers. Online bidding is currently underway for Auction 128, which is being held June 27-28, 2022.

Leading the sale is a China 1904 Hupeh Tael with Large Characters graded NGC MS 62 and pedigreed to the W&B Capital Collection (lot 1671). During the Qing Dynasty, Taels like this one were circulated throughout the Hupeh (presently known as Hubei) province, as seen on the obverse legend. This well-struck example has an estimate of at least $350,000.

Another stunning offering in the sale is a Great Britain 1717 5 Guineas with Inverted “D” on Edge graded NGC MS 63 (lot 1376), which has an estimate of at least $100,000. It features a detailed portrait of George I, a German-born king who ruled Great Britain from 1714 to 1727. Out of seven graded examples of this variety in the NGC Census, this issue is the finest recorded.

Other NGC-certified highlights in the sale include:

  • a China 1916 Hung Hsien Dollar graded NGC MS 62 (lot 1660), with an estimate of at least $80,000
  • a China 1921 Hsu Shih Chang Dollar with Bottom Legend graded NGC MS 62 (lot 1661), with an estimate of at least $80,000
  • a China 1921 Hsu Shih Chang Dollar with Bottom Legend graded NGC MS 62 (lot 1663), with an estimate of at least $80,000
  • an England 1668 5 Guineas with “VICESIMO” on edge graded NGC MS 60 (lot 1369), with an estimate of at least $75,000
  • an England 1686 5 Guineas graded NGC MS 61 (lot 1371), with an estimate of at least $75,000
  • a Great Britain 1753 5 Guineas graded NGC MS 62 (lot 1377), with an estimate of at least $60,000
  • a China 1921 Hsu Shih Chang Dollar with Bottom Legend graded NGC MS 61 (lot 1662), with an estimate of at least $60,000
  • a China 1922 Hunan Dollar graded NGC MS 63 (lot 1669), with an estimate of at least $50,000

All estimates are provided by the auction house in US dollars.
