The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is celebrating the diamond anniversary of one of its most-renowned members: Kenneth Bressett. For decades, Bressett has devoted his life to promoting numismatics through his writing and teaching others.
Bressett, who became a member in 1947, has taken a leading role in the numismatic community. From 1983 to 1988, he served as director of the ANA’s coin authentication and education programs. Bressett served as the ANA’s president from 1993 to 1995 while occasionally teaching Summer Seminar in Colorado.
Aside from his contributions to the ANA, Bressett is best known as a prolific author who has written and edited numerous books and articles. For over 50 years, he edited “A Guide Book of United States Coins” (the Red Book); he now holds the title of Editor Emeritus. Other publications Bressett has been involved in are “A Penny Saved: R.S. Yeoman and His Remarkable Red Book,” “Official ANA Grading Standards for United States Coins,” “A Guide Book of English Coins” and many others.
For his service to numismatics, Bressett has received numerous accolades, including election to the National Numismatic Hall of Fame, The American Numismatic Society’s Distinguished Service Award, The American Numismatic Association Medal of Merit, and the ANA Farran Zerbe Memorial Award. He was named to Coin World’s The Most Influential People in Numismatics: 1960-2020.
