Remarkable NGC-certified 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar Offered in Stack's Bowers Sale
Posted on 3/10/2023
A rare Flowing Hair Dollar is among dozens of valuable coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) that are available in an upcoming Stack's Bowers sale. Bidding is already underway for the Spring 2023 Auction - Session 3 - Rarities Night featuring the James Allaire Millholland Collection, scheduled for March 21, 2023.
One of the highlights of the auction is a 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar graded NGC MS 62 (lot 3137). The NGC Census contains about 1,350 examples of this coin, but those in Mint State condition are very rare. Only 16 are graded at NGC MS 62, with only 33 coins in the NGC Census graded higher.
This is only the second of two dates in the US Mint's premier silver dollar series. The obverse features the bust of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, while the reverse shows a perched eagle with wings spread wide.
