Posted on 3/10/2023
A rare early 20th century Italian coin featuring the King of Italy is among numerous world coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) that are available in a Editions V. Gadoury sale. Bidding is already underway for Gadoury’s Auction Spring 2023 - Collection of Monsieur B. de Z. - World Coins and Medals, scheduled for March 25, 2023, in Monaco.
A highlight of the sale is an Italy 1927R 100 Lire graded NGC MS 60 (lot 616), with a starting price of 80,000 EUR (about $84,400). There are only three examples of this coin in the NGC Census.
The obverse of the coin features a longtime Italian ruler, King Victor Emmanuel III, who reigned from 1900 until his abdication in 1946. During his almost five decades on the throne, the Kingdom of Italy was involved in two world wars, and the country saw the birth, rise and fall of Italian fascism and its regime.
