Posted on 11/15/2024
Hundreds of banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are being offered in two separate upcoming A. Karamitsos sales. Bidding is already underway for the Postal & Live Internet Auction 737, which is being held on November 30, 2024. Bidding is also underway for the Postal & Live Internet Auction 739, which is being held December 14-15, 2024.
A top PMG-graded highlight in Auction 737 is a Kingdom of Serbia, Chartered National Bank 1905 (1914) 20 Dinara graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 6226) with a starting price of €20,000 (about $21,000). This intricately designed note was produced during the short existence of the Kingdom of Serbia, which only lasted from 1882 to 1918 before eventually becoming Yugoslavia. It was created during a time of turmoil and transition in the region, not long after the May Coup of 1903 and shortly before World War I. Only three examples of this type are known to exist, and this is the lone example in the PMG Population Report.
Meanwhile, the top NGC-certified lot in Auction 739 is a complete set of Greece 1954 Gold Patterns (50 Lepta, 1 Drachma, 2 Drachmas and 5 Drachmas) - "Anamnhetikon" Above Date graded from NGC SP 64 Cameo to NGC SP 66 Cameo (lot 6126) with a starting price of €150,000 (about $160,000). Each of the four coins in this commemorative set feature King Paul of Greece, who reigned from 1947 until his death from cancer in 1964. Only 10 of these extremely rare gold coin sets were ever issued, and this is the first time a complete set is being auctioned, according to the auction house.
