About the Program

The US Mint proudly created the 2025 US Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program to honor the Marines and to recognize their significant contributions to the security and protection of the United States.

Founded in November 1775, the Marine Corps was originally established as a naval fighting unit to combat other ships. Its mission and purpose evolved as US military tactics changed over time, eventually becoming a cornerstone of US military strategies through its proficient and quick responses when dealing with US foreign policy crises. Serving in almost every conflict in American history, the Marine Corps became a world power by the early 1900s as one of the most revered and dominant military units across the globe.

In 2025, the Marine Corps celebrates a milestone, remembering the men and women who have dedicated their lives and fought for their country over the last 250 years. To pay respects to the Marines of past and present, and to honor decades of service to the United States, the US Marine Corps is now forever commemorated with the 2025 US Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Proof Set.

Rhett Jeppson, US Marine Corps veteran and the first US Mint Principal Deputy Director (2015-2017), has been an exclusive NGC signer since 2017, and now NGC is offering a special Rhett Jeppson Signature Label to ALL submitters. Available through December 31, 2025, this label is the first hand-signed label ever to be offered to both collectors and dealers. Read more about Jeppson and the NGC Signature Label for these coins here.

The set features designs by Donna Weaver, another NGC signer. The 2025 US Marine Corps 250th Anniversary $5 Gold Coin obverse and reverse, the Silver Dollar reverse and the Half Dollar reverse were each created by Weaver, who has designed more than 80 coins and medals for the US Mint, including sculpting the Return to Monticello Nickel obverse and designing the 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin common reverse.
