Over the course of my career dealing in modern day coins, a few pieces stand out. One of those coins is the 2024 Silver Eagle featuring a “Star Privy.” Upon release, this Silver Eagle took the modern rare coin market by surprise and was met with demand like I haven’t seen since the first-ever 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagle.

Why is the 2024 Star Privy Silver Eagle so special?
The 2024 Star Privy Silver Eagle marked a groundbreaking collaboration between the United States Mint and Eighth Era, which merges action-packed RPG gameplay with tangible rewards such as exclusive collectible silver coins. Only 500,000 of these coins were struck and the first 50,000 of them were released to Eighth Era in advance of the official release date.
The overall mintage of just 500,000 coins places this Silver Eagle among the lowest mintages in the entire Silver Eagle series. It is also one of just six Mint State Silver Eagles ever struck at the Philadelphia Mint. To top it all off, only a fraction of the overall mintage has been certified in perfect grade of MS 70 by NGC, which just adds to the rarity to these special pieces.
Currently, 2024 Star Privy Silver Eagles range from $100 to $200 online (depending on the label variation and pedigree), with the ones marked as “One of First 50,000 Issued” fetching $400 or more.
What is a "Privy?"
A "privy mark" is a small symbol on a coin that pays homage to a special event or origin. The 2024 Star Privy Silver Eagle marked the first time the market has ever seen a privy mark on a Mint State Silver Eagle as well as a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the US Mint and Eighth Era. In 2020, the US Mint did produce a limited edition Proof Silver Eagle with a "V75 Privy" to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. That 2020 Proof Silver Eagle is the only other Silver Eagle to feature a privy mark to date. The 2024 Star Privy Silver Eagles feature a Star Privy on the obverse of the coin at around 4 o’clock, next to the initials of Adolph A. Weinman.
Will the Mint continue to make Privy-marked Silver Eagles?
The US Mint has not made it clear whether other privy-marked Silver Eagles will be released; however, I can surely tell you that the market wants to see more of these. We at Bullion Shark sold out of the 2024 Star Privy Silver Eagles several times when they initially released and our current inventory of them is almost non-existent.
In conclusion, I hope to see more Limited Edition Silver Eagle releases, like the 2024 Star Privy. The US Mint has been doing a great job of engaging existing collectors and getting new collectors into the hobby with special releases like this.
