French Rarity Leads Hundreds of NGC-certified World and Ancient Coins in Early May Auction

An Una and the Lion is also among the coins graded by NGC in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale.

A hefty French coin and a classic British rarity are among hundreds of world and ancient coins certified Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) in an upcoming sale. Bidding is already underway for Heritage Auctions’ CSNS World and Ancient Coins Platinum Session and Signature Auction, which will be held on May 1-2, 2025.

The France 1640A 10 Louis d’Or Draped Bust graded NGC AU Details (lot 30077) weighs more than 2 troy ounces and has an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. With a portrait of King Louis XIII, this 10 Louis d'Or is a true prize of French numismatics. The current record for a French coin sold through Heritage is a 1640A 10 Louis d’Or Draped Bust, Early Restrike pedigreed to the Paramount Collection and graded NGC MS 61, which realized $456,000 in 2021.

  • a Great Britain 1741/38 5 Guineas graded NGC MS 61 (lot 30105), with an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000
  • a Great Britain 1937 1/2 Penny Pattern - Edward VIII graded NGC PF 64 BN (lot 30138), with an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000
  • a Lydia, Croesus 561-546 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients Ch MS, 5/5 Strike and 5/5 Surface (lot 30010), with an estimate of $40,000 to $50,000
