The development of haze on the surfaces of modern coins is a world-wide phenomenon. Coins from all over the world are subject to developing this sort of haze that can, over time, damage the surface. In the immediate short-term, it can cause the coin to grade lower than it might have otherwise.

This South Korean 1986 silver 5000 Won commemorative coin celebrating the then-upcoming 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul was recently submitted to NCS. The astute numismatist who owns this coin wished to have the foggy haze removed from the surface so it would grade the best it possibly could with NGC. For a special rate of $22.50 per coin, any modern coin dated 1970 to date can be both conserved and graded. Taking full advantage of this special, the numismatist was pleased to have a modern treasure grade to its fullest potential with NGC.
