Sometimes the beauty of a coin is obscured by a thin veil of residues. The original beauty of this 1902 O Morgan Dollar was laying in wait under a layer of unattractive opaque red residues. Improper storage techniques had allowed this potential damaging residue to form in streaks across both sides of the coin. An original white coin was indeed visible through breaks in the residue and the NCS conservators were able to delicately remove the streaky red residues revealing the lustrous coin beneath. The coin was able to grade numerically with NGC following the conservation work.
