Improper storage can lead to the development of unattractive residues and undesirable toning. This 1920 Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar had developed a mottled uniform brown tone with the addition of some pale greenish residues on the reverse due to many years housed in an improper way.
NCS conservators were able to remove both the residues and the mottled toning to reveal a brilliant coin underneath. This coin was able to grad with standard numeric grading with NGC following conservation work.
