NGC to Exhibit Arthur L. Gowman Collection, No. 1 Ranked Roosevelt Dime Registry Set at the 2013 FUN Show
Posted on 12/12/2012
Now in its 68th year of production, the Roosevelt Dime has found immense popularity with collectors, particularly NGC Registry enthusiasts. While there are no rare issues in absolute terms, many of these coins have emerged as important condition rarities. This exhibit features the wonderful Arthur L. Gowman Collection of Roosevelt Dimes, all but one of which is the single finest certified in the NGC Census. Each and every coin is gorgeously toned, a factor which certainly contributed to their superior grades and eye appeal.
1947-S 10C
NGC MS 68
A finest-certified entry in the NGC Census, this amazing 1947-S dime is well struck overall from moderately worn dies. These typically provided rich, frosty luster, but what is atypical in this coin is its distinctive and quite pleasing coloration. Both sides display mottled cobalt blue of great lushness, and on the reverse this blends with a lovely blush of magenta.
1951 10C
NGC MS 68 Full Torch
Blue and gold once again predominate on this wonderfully toned beauty. These vivid colors are accompanied by charming peripheral bands of subtle magenta. All details are fully wrought on this specimen, including the critical horizontal and vertical bands of the torch. The finest example certified by NGC, it is another worthy entry in this landmark collection.
1958-D 10C
NGC MS 68 Full Torch
Near perfection, this wonderful dime is fully struck in every detail from fresh, unworn dies. It is further graced with some of the most amazing toning one will ever see on a Roosevelt Dime. 1958 was the final year for cardboard holders in the Mint’s Uncirculated Sets, and this is almost certainly the source of such rich and satisfying color. Yet again, this specimen is the very finest certified in NGC’s Census Report.
