NGC Certifies the Exemplary D. Moore Collection

Posted on 12/19/2016

The fantastic D. Moore Collection of world gems will anchor Heritage’s NYINC sale on January 9.

Over 500 NGC-certified world coins from the D. Moore Collection will be sold at auction on January 9, 2017. Heritage Auctions will conduct the sale in conjunction with the prestigious New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC). Included is a broad selection of coin types that share one common feature above all: their exceptional state of preservation. The entire collection has been certified by NGC and pedigreed to the D. Moore Collection.

While most advanced collections are confined to a particular time period or geographic area, the D. Moore Collection spans six-continents and over five centuries of coinage. Assembled over four decades, the collector relied on atypical but precise criteria. To be considered for the collection, each coin needed to be the very best quality available for the issue and possess exceptional eye appeal. The results of his connoisseurship are remarkable in that each coin in the collection can be appreciated individually for its beauty and rarity.

Jay Turner, world coin finalizer at NGC, notes: "It cannot be overstated how seldom a collection like D. Moore is seen. Virtually every coin is among the finest of its type or issue, and yet the collection spans several hundred years and several dozen countries. The overall quality is breathtaking."

"We are proud to present this incredible collection. It will most certainly be the marquis event of this year's NYINC and will be remembered and referenced among collectors for many years to come. Collectors will forever associate the D. Moore pedigree with superb quality." shared Cristiano Bierrenbach, executive vice president of international numismatics at Heritage Auctions.

Innumerable highlights of the offering demonstrate the auspicious nature of the sale. The most widely represented country in the collection is Russia. A pair of Alexander III Roubles – one from 1886 graded NGC PF 66 Cameo and another from 1892 graded NGC MS 67 – are both contenders for the finest examples of the type in proof and mint state formats. An incredible Novodel Proof 5 Roubles of 1755, graded NGC PF 64 Cameo, will leave even the most jaded professional numismatist in awe.

From Great Britain is an 1893 5 Pounds graded NGC PF 67 Ultra Cameo, the finest graded by two points. It is considered to be the finest extant large proof gold coin displaying Queen Victoria with veiled head.

Coins of the Americas are led by a Bolivia 1652 Philip IV "Royal" 8 Reales graded NGC MS 63, which is likely the finest coin of the denomination for the series. In addition, a Mexico-Oaxaca 1812 War of Independence 8 Reales graded NGC MS 64 is the only uncirculated example certified of this iconic issue. For every country, every coin included in this collection is truly superlative.
