NGC is celebrating the coin and medal in this set with a special designation of American Legion Coin & Medal Set, which is provided for no additional fee. (Scroll below to see detailed submission instructions.)

The 2019 American Legion Proof Silver Dollars were initially released in March, alongside a Proof Gold $5 and a Proof Clad Half Dollar. Each denomination has a different design honoring the American Legion, and each is also available in an uncirculated version. The coins celebrate the 100th anniversary of the well-known American veterans organization, which has 2 million members and 13,000 posts worldwide, most of them in the United States. The American Legion was founded at a meeting in Paris in March 1919, and chartered by the US Congress several months later.

The American Veterans Silver Medal has a mintage limit of 10,000. Its obverse features an eagle surrounded by the words "CELEBRATING AMERICA'S VETERANS," while the reverse shows a field of stars with one missing, above the words "SERVICE AND SACRIFICE." The Mint states that the silver version of this medal is only available in this set.

Coins and medals received by NGC within the first 30 days of their release are eligible for NGC's popular Early Releases and First Releases designations. Learn more about Early Releases and First Releases here. For Early Releases / First Releases cutoff dates, click here.
