NGC-certified World and US Coins Race Past Estimates in Germany Sale

World and US coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) realized significantly more than their pre-sale estimates in the Künker Münzauktionen und Goldhandel Auktion 339 and Auktion 340 sales held from September 28-October 1, 2020.

A rare German coin featuring the city of Nuremberg sold for nearly five times its pre-sale estimate of € 20,000 (about $23,000 USD), realizing € 95,000 (about $111,200 USD). The GFN Germany 1698 Nurnberg 5 Ducat graded NGC MS 61 was struck in celebration of the Peace of Rijiswijk, which was a series of treaties signed in 1697 that effectively ended the Nine Years’ War.

An outstanding US 1865-S $10 graded NGC MS 61 realized € 90,000 (about $105,300 USD), roughly six times more than its pre-sale estimate of € 15,000 (about $17,600 USD). This exceptionally rare Liberty Head has the highest grade of its kind.

Another US coin surpassed its pre-estimate sale of € 25,000 (about $29,300 USD, realizing € 85,000 (about $99,500 USD). The striking US 1859-O $20 graded NGC AU 58 is among the finest known.

A Germany Gold Liberation of Augsburg 1706-Dated Gold Medal graded NGC graded MS 64★ sold for € 85,000 (about $99,500 USD) as well, with a pre-sale estimate of € 40,000 (about $47,000 USD). The uncirculated gold medal was struck to celebrate the liberation of Augsburg from French and Bavarian troops in 1704.
