NGC Special Designations and Labels for the Mayflower 400th Anniversary US and Great Britain Sets
Posted on 11/12/2020
For the first time ever, the US Mint and the Royal Mint, the official mint of the United Kingdom, are partnering together to offer dual sets. Honoring the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage, a Two-Coin Gold Proof Set and a Silver Proof Coin and Medal Set go on sale November 17. On the same day, a Mayflower 400th Anniversary Reverse Proof Gold Coin and Silver Medal, companion pieces to the sets, are also being released. For more information about submitting the coin and medal, click here.
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is distinguishing the gold and silver sets with a special pedigree, US & Great Britain Set, and offering its vibrant Mayflower 400th Anniversary Special Label by default for no additional charge. For sets received within the first 30 days of release, the popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases designations and labels are also available.

The 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage Two-Coin Gold Proof Set features a $10 one-quarter ounce gold coin from the US Mint that portrays a Wampanoag family and a Pilgrim man and woman on the brink of their lives coming together. Meanwhile, the £25 one-quarter ounce gold coin from the Royal Mint showcases a dynamic depiction of the Mayflower cutting through rough waters.

The 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage Silver Proof Coin and Medal Set includes a silver £2 coin from the Royal Mint with the same robust depiction of the Mayflower, while the silver medal from the US Mint illustrates the Pilgrims introduction to the New World. Both the US Mint gold coin and silver medal were designed by Chris Costello, an award-winning artist who signs certification labels exclusively for NGC. Learn more about his work here.
Each Mayflower 400th Anniversary US and Great Britain Set will be accompanied by an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from the US Mint. This is unusual for the US Mint, as COAs normally do not have individual numbers. NGC will add the COA number to the NGC label by request for an additional fee. NGC also can encapsulate the COA in a special, tamper-evident holder, also by request for an additional fee.
The Royal Mint is also releasing 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage sets. The US Mint is selling 9,200 silver sets and 4,850 gold sets, while the Royal Mint is selling 5,000 silver sets and 500 gold sets.
For coins received in their original sealed US Mint or Royal Mint shipping box, the NGC certification label will indicate the country whose mint sold the set, and these will be listed separately in the NGC Census. Coins that are not submitted in their original sealed mint shipping box will still receive the US & Great Britain Set pedigree.
