NGC-certified Chinese Coin Realizes $260,000 in November Sale

Vintage Chinese coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) raced past their pre-sale estimates in a Champion Macau Auction that was held from November 27-29, 2020.

A China YR3(1911) L&M-28 Long Whiskered Dragon Silver Pattern Dollar graded NGC MS 64 and pedigreed to the Bowker Collection significantly surpassed its pre-sale estimate of $30,000 to $60,000 USD, realizing $260,000 USD. Luigi Giorgi, a renowned Italian engraver, designed the Long Whiskered Dragon coin at the Tientsin Mint. An exceptional example, it is tied with two others as the finest recorded in the NGC Census.
Another star of the sale was a China 1911 L&M-39 Silver Pattern 50 Cents graded NGC MS 62 that realized $110,000 USD, a record price for this coin in that grade. This coin is also pedigreed to the Bowker Collection.
Other NGC-certified highlights include:
- a China 1910 L&M-24 Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 64 that realized $88,000 USD
- a China (1838-50) Taiwan L&M-316 Silver Dollar graded NGC AU 55 that realized $76,000 USD
- a China YR33(1907) Manchurian L&M-487 Silver Dollar graded NGC AU 58 that realized $56,000 USD
- a China 1896 Heilungkiang L&M-586 50 Cents graded NGC AU 55 that realized $54,000 USD
