Chinese Rarities Certified by NGC and PMG Featured in Hong Kong Auction

A fantastic selection of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) and banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is being offered in a Spink China numismatic e-auction. Online bidding is already underway for both sessions, with session 63A ending April 10, 2021 and session 63B ending April 11, 2021.

Several NGC-certified coins are being offered from China’s beloved Lunar Series, which feature animals from the Chinese Zodiac. A 1993 Year of the Rooster Silver 100 Yuan graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo (lot 548, session 63A) features the 10^th animal in the zodiac. From a mintage of 500, this coin is estimated HK$48,000 to HK$55,000 (about $6,200 to $7,000 USD).

Another Lunar Series coin offered in the auction is a 1994 Year of the Dog Silver 100 Yuan graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (lot 549, session 63A). Like the previous coin, this one is also from a mintage of 500. It is estimated at HK$40,000 to $50,000 (about $5,100 to $6,400 USD).

Other NGC-certified highlights:

• a China 1997 Year of the Ox Silver 100 Yuan graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo (lot 550, session 63A), with an estimate of HK $40,000 to HK $50,000 (about $5,100 to $6,400 USD)
• a group of 5 USSR 1977-1980 Moscow Olympics Platinum 150 Rubles, all graded NGC MS 69 or NGC MS 70 (lot 1267, session 63B), with an estimate of HK $25,000 to HK $35,000 (about $3,200 to $4,500 USD).
• a China 1998 Year of the Tiger Silver 100 Yuan graded NGC PF 67 Ultra Cameo (lot 551, session 63A), with an estimate of HK $22,000 to HK $28,000 (about $2,900 to $3,600 USD)
• a Jamaica 1979 Gold 250 Dollars graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (lot 1236, session 63B), with an estimate of HK $17,500 to HK $22,000 (about $2,200 to $4,500 USD)

Meanwhile, there are several lots that feature PMG-certified notes. One noteworthy lot is a China (1910) $3 Pei-Yang Tientsin Bank graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 152, session 63 B). This colorful note is estimated between HK $60,000 to HK $75,000 (about $7,800 to $9,700 USD).

Other PMG-certified highlights include:

• a Hong Kong, Charterd Bank of India, Australia and China 1911-22 5 Dollars graded PMG 15 Choice Fine NET (lot 1380, session 63B), with an estimate of HK$32,000 to HK$45,000 (about $4,100 to $5,800 USD)
• a Hong Kong, Mercantile Bank of India, Ltd. 1948-56 100 Dollars graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 1376, session 63B), with an estimate of HK$18,000 to HK $24,000 (about $2,300 to $3,100 USD)
• a China, Banque Industrielle de Chine 1914-17 5 Dollars graded PMG 15 Choice Fine NET (lot 202, session 63A), with an estimate of HK$16,000 to HK$20,000 (about $2,000 to $2,600 USD)
• a China, Bank of China 1912 1 Dollar graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 67, session 63A), with an estimate of HK$14,000 to HK$20,000 (about $1,800 to $2,600 USD)
