NGC Registry Featured Set: Great Britain - Decimal (1971-Date)
Posted on 5/11/2021
We hope you enjoyed the Swiss Shooting Thalers last month, and this month we pay tribute to another historical NGC Registry set. This active NGC Registry participant brings us to Great Britain with his featured set Great Britain - Decimal (1971-Date) Five Pounds, Commemorative, Elizabeth II, 1990-Date, Mint State.
Covering 50 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and still counting, this set is a compilation of significant British events, landmarks and many of its major influencers. Featuring well-struck examples with a variety of art from one piece to the next, this collector’s gallery is a visual delight. Be sure to check it out.
The Welsh Dragon presents his unique collection featuring not only historical figures but also authors and musicians, such as William Wordsworth, Elton John, David Bowie and Queen. As one would expect, there are several coins dedicated to Royal Family members, including Prince Philip. As the world mourns the loss of a charitable man dedicated to serving his country and his wife, QE II, we present The Welsh Dragon’s top pop 2017 coin with HRH, the Duke of Edinburgh.
This collector boasts several other top pop coins, as well, and this is not a series flooded with 70s; this took careful planning. Initiated in early 2017 and with constant upgrades as recently as a few weeks ago, The Welsh Dragon has climbed the ranks where he currently, comfortably sits in first place. The Five Pound NGC Registry sets are some of the most popular among all the Decimal sets. Amazingly, The Welsh Dragon currently holds top spot in all sets! Thank you, Welsh Dragon, for sharing all your treasured sets with us. We look forward to seeing how your comprehensive collections expand in the future.
Get your sets ready for the 2021 NGC Registry Awards. The NGC Registry is a free online platform where collectors register and display their certified coins and can compete against other collectors around the world for recognition and prizes. This popular resource now boasts over 22,000 users, 200,000+ registered sets and over 1.3 million registered coins. In January of 2021, the NGC Registry awarded more than $25,000 in prizes — a 25% increase over last year!
Would you like your set to be chosen for a future article? 100% completion in a set is not always feasible. Perhaps, we will choose someone whose set has a personal story behind it or some interesting historical facts. We are looking for those sets where someone has taken the time to make the set unique and a reflection of his/her personal collecting style. It may be your set! Stay tuned.
