NGC-certified Royal 8 Reales Takes Top Spot in Sedwick's Auction

A rare Mexican coin certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) was the top lot in the Sedwick’s Treasure, World, US Coins and Paper Money sale (Auction 29), which concluded May 10, 2021.
The Mexico 1730/28/5MO Royal 8 Reales graded NGC AU 58 and pedigreed as the Lazaro Plate coin (lot 287) was one of the last Royals that were struck before the Pillar Dollar was introduced in 1732. This rarity realized $102,000.

The second-highest price realized was for a gold Columbian 1826 JF 4 Escudos graded NGC MS 64 and pedigreed to the Lissner Collection and Esmeralda Collection (lot 805). This high-grade example was a one-year issue and realized $72,000.

Other highlights in the sale included:
- a Colombia 1819 JF 8 Nueva Granada Reales graded NGC MS 64 (lot 832) that realized $57,000
- a Peru 1703L H 8 Escudos graded NGC MS 63 and pedigreed to the 1715 Fleet (lot 27) that realized $54,000
- a Mexico 1607MO F Royal 8 Reales graded NGC XF Details (lot 279) that realized $54,000
- a Spain 1721/19 F 8 Escudos graded NGC AU 58+ (lot 1150) that realized $54,000
- a Mexico 1714MO Royal 8 Reales graded NGC AU Details and pedigreed to the 1715 Fleet (lot 285) that realized $46,500
- a Peru 1698C M Escudo graded NGC AU 58 and pedigreed to the 1715 Fleet (lot 37) that realized $45,000
All prices realized include the buyer’s premium.
