NGC-graded Rarities from Asia Featured in July Spink Sale

Hundreds of coins from Asia that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) are being offered in a series of Spink China numismatic auctions this month. Online bidding is already underway for session 66 ending July 11; session 67A ending July 12; and session 67B ending July 13, 2021.

The top NGC-certified lot in the sale is a China 1904 Kiangnan Silver Dollar (L&M-257) graded NGC MS 62 (session 66, lot 618). This coin from the province that includes modern-day Shanghai has an estimate of HK$100,000 to HK$150,000 (about $12,900 to $19,300 USD).

Meanwhile, the sale features another important rarity from elsewhere in Asia: a French Indochina (1943-44) Small Deer Head Tael (L&M-435) graded NGC MS 63 (session 66, lot 895). It was struck during World War II for the French colony that corresponds to modern-day Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. It has an estimate of HK$85,000 to HK$150,000 (about $10,900 to $19,300 USD).

• a China (1914) Silver Dollar (L&M-858) graded NGC MS 61 (session 66, lot 830) with an estimate of HK$50,000 to HK$150,000 (about $6,400 to $19,300 USD)

• a Hong Kong 1867 Silver Dollar graded NGC AU 58 (session 66, lot 306) with an estimate of HK$18,000 to HK$26,000 (about $2,300 to $3,300 USD)
• a group of three Malaysia 5 Sen coins with off-center strikes, with two graded NGC Mint Error MS 66 and the third graded NGC Mint Error UNC Details (session 67A, lot 1124) with an estimate of HK$1,500 to HK$3,000 (about $200 to $400 USD)
• a group of three Malaysia 10 Sen coins that were each multistruck, graded NGC Mint Error MS 63 to NGC Mint Error MS 65 (session 67A, lot 1129) with an estimate of HK$1,500 to HK$3,000 (about $200 to $400 USD)
• a Hong Kong 1894 20 Cents graded NGC AU Details (session 67A, lot 1358) with an estimate of HK$2,000 to HK$3,000 (about $250 to $400 USD)
• a China 1917 Yunnan 50 Cents (L&M-863) graded NGC XF Details (session 67B, lot 2399) with an estimate of HK$3,000 to HK$6,000 (about $400 to $800 USD)
