Rare NGC-certified German Gold Coin Realizes Over $300,000 in Japan Auction

A variety of European coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) impressed in the 33rd Ginza Coins Auction, which was based in Japan. An extremely rare German coin that realized ¥40,700,000 (about $314,000) was the star of the November 20, 2021, sale.

The Germany 1721 PGN Nurnberg 10 Ducats graded NGC MS 60 (lot 1014) is the only example in the NGC Census. Its obverse features a detailed portrait of Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, who ruled the region from 1711 to 1740, while the reverse shows the city of Nurnberg.
Other NGC-certified highlights in the sale included:
- a Great Britain 1817 Three Graces Silver Pattern Crown graded NGC PF 63 (lot 1047) that realized ¥22,000,000 (about $170,100)
- a Hungary 1616 Transylvania 10 Ducats graded NGC MS 62 (lot 1168) that realized ¥18,150,000 (about $140,300)
- a German 1658 Frankfurt 3 Ducats graded NGC MS 64+ PL (lot 1019) that realized ¥14,300,000 (about $110,500)
- a United States 1915-S Panama-Pacific Round $50 graded NGC MS 64 (lot 1179) that realized ¥11,655,000 (about $89,300)
- an 11-piece Great Britain 1887 Jubilee Proof Set graded NGC PF 60 Ultra Cameo to NGC PF 67 Cameo (lot 1069) that realized ¥9,350,000 (about $72,300)
- a Great Britain 1853 Septimo Crown graded NGC PF 63 (lot 1066) that realized ¥8,436,000 (about $64,600)
- a Great Britain 1847 Un Decimo Crown with Gothic Type graded NGC PF 65+ Cameo (lot 1064) that realized ¥7,990,000 (about $61,200)
