NGC Registry Featured Set: Roman Emperor Portrait Coins

As the calendar year comes to a close, many of us reflect on the past year and what was most remarkable about it. For this month’s article, we journey deep into the past, centuries behind us, back to ancient Rome. We feature an extraordinary Ancient Custom NGC Registry Set, Roman Emperor Portrait Coins, by Me.

This set, steeped in history and loaded with impressive rarities, earned the honor of Best Ancient NGC Registry Set back in 2018. However, Me did not rest on his laurels and enjoy the honor of recognition. He continues his hunt for portrait coinage of each Roman Emperor dating back to Julius Caesar, and he has also expanded his vision:

“For 2021, the set now includes three new areas—Empresses, pretenders, and major Roman errors. Thus far, only 20 of the 56 empresses are included, but I have many more that I need to send in... For pretenders, I am only just starting in that area, so I have simply listed the five pretenders that I have... The final section, Roman errors, contains a variety of coins with major errors such as coins that are double-struck with rotation, full brockages, and strike-through errors. I am starting by adding three of these, but already have several more spectacular errors ready to send in for grading that will be added later.”
