NGC-certified Rare Coins From Asia Featured in Spink Sales

Two coins from the early 1900s are leading the way in the January auctions.

Hundreds of coins from Asia certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are featured in a series of sales by Spink being held January 8-9, 2022. Bidding is already underway for CCS73B: Banknotes, Bonds & Shares and Coins of China and Hong Kong; CSS73C: Banknotes, Bonds & Shares and Coins of China and Hong Kong; and CSS75: The South East Asian Collection Part III.

The top NGC-certified lot in the sales is a China 1912 Li Yuan Hung Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 62 (CCS73B, lot 3413). It was issued to celebrate the new Republic of China and shows an image of Li Yuan Hung, the first vice president of China who later served as president from 1916-17 and 1922-1923. This coin has an estimate of HK$220,000 to HK$300,000 (about $28,200 to $38,500)

Another NGC-certified highlight is a Straits Settlements 1905B 50 Cents with Incuse Mintmark, graded NGC PF 63 and pedigreed to the Barrett Collection (CSS75, lot 4189). This coin has an estimate of HK$160,000 to HK$240,000 (about $20,500 to $30,800 USD).

Other NGC-certified highlights include:

  • a China 1908 Silver Dollar graded NGC AU 50 (CCS73B, lot 3179) with an estimate of HK$100,000 to HK$200,000 (about $12,800 to $25,600 USD)
  • a China (1890-1908) Kwangtung Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 62 (CCS73B, lot 3240) with an estimate of HK$150,000 to HK$200,000 (about $19,200 to $25,6000 USD)
  • a China 1923 Tsao Kun Silver Dollar graded NGC UNC Details (CCS73B, lot 3416) with an estimate of HK$90,000 to HK$120,000 (about $11,500 to $15,400 USD)
  • a Hong Kong 19867/6 Silver Dollar graded NGC AU Details (CCS73C, lot 5250) with an estimate of HK$80,000 to HK$120,000 (about $10,300 to $15,400 USD)
  • a Penang 1788 VEIC Quarter Dollar graded NGC F 12 (CSS75, lot 4135) with an estimate of HK$62,000 to HK$100,000 (about $7,900 to $12,800 USD)
  • a Penang 1810 Copper Pattern Pice graded NGC PF 65 BN (CSS75, lot 4136) with an estimate of HK$75,000 to HK$100,000 (about $9,600 to $12,800 USD)
  • a Penang 1810 Copper Pattern Pice graded NGC PF 64 BN (CSS75, lot 4137) with an estimate of HK$75,000 to HK$100,000 (about $9,600 to $12,800 USD)
  • a Sumatra AH1200//1787 Scalloped Copper Pattern 2 Kepings graded NGC MS 62 BN (CSS75, lot 4198) with an estimate of HK$70,000 to HK$90,000 (about $9,000 to $11,500 USD)
  • a Sumatra AH1200//1787 Round Copper Pattern 2 Kepings graded NGC (CSS75, lot 4200) with an estimate of HK$70,000 to HK$90,000 (about $9,000 to $11,500 USD)
  • a China 1912 Sinkiang Sar graded NGC MS 60 (CCS73B, lot 3494) with an estimate of HK$50,000 to HK$80,000 (about $6,400 to $10,300 USD)
  • a French Indochina (1943-44) Tael graded NGC MS 61 (CCS73B, lot 3550) with an estimate of HK$50,000 to HK$80,000 (about $6,400 to $10,300 USD)

  • a Hong Kong (1929) Silver Gilt Certificate of Honor Medal graded NGC MS 64 (CSS75, lot 4053) with an estimate of HK$50,000 to HK$75,000 (about $6,400 to $9,600 USD)
  • a Sumatra AH1202//1787 Copper Pattern Keping graded NGC MS 62 BN (CSS75, lot 4196) with an estimate of HK$45,000 to HK$70,000 (about $5,800 to $9,000 USD)
  • a Sumatra AH1200//1787 Copper Pattern Oval, Plain Edge 2 Kepings graded NGC AU 50 BN (CSS75, lot 4199) with an estimate of HK$45,000 to HK$70,000 (about $5,800 to $9,000 USD)
