Peter Anthony: The 2013 gold 10000 Yuan 1 kg. Panda is the sixteenth year for which a kilo gold Panda was minted. Unlike the older 12 oz. gold Pandas the kilo golds have the same basic design as the smaller coins of their year. The 2013 design is the first kilo Panda to feature three bears. Within China interest in Panda coins remained high in this year helped by the efforts of the China Mint to promote Pandas.
With such large, soft surfaces the handling of these coins both at the mint and afterward is critical. They seem to attract marks yet good quality control has resulted in a split between PF70 and PF69 grades for this year.
The 2013 10000 Yuan gold Panda is part of the “Gold 1 Kilo Panda, 1997-Date, Proof” NGC Registry set.
