Peter Anthony: The 2000 3000 Yuan gold 1 kg. Panda is a numerologist’s delight. Issued in the millennium year 2000 it seems to foreshadow the next thousand years of Pandas with its 3000 Yuan denomination. This is yet another rare coin in the kilogram gold series with an official mintage of 68 but a true mintage below that. Like the smaller 2000 B.U. Pandas this kilo gold Panda features a design of a seated panda who holds a bamboo shoot. The background is an almost abstract weave of bamboo leaves.
With its large, soft surfaces this kilo gold Pandas tend to attract marks and a near-perfect PF69 coin is not an easy grade to achieve. Yet most of the coins graded are PF-69 or better – albeit with a small population. Whatever flaws the coins have were likely already there by the time they were shipped from the mint. Red spots can be expected, but this is a problem that NCS has much experience in dealing with.
The 2000 3000 Yuan gold Panda is part of the “Gold 1 Kilo Panda, 1997-Date, Proof” NGC Registry set.
