Peter Anthony: The 2004 50 Yuan platinum Panda is the last 1/20 oz. platinum Panda and it’s also the last coin in a brief two-year run of these. It shares the design of all the other 2004 Pandas. – an adult Panda with a cub. For a numismatist who wants a 1/20 oz. platinum Panda this coin is isn’t the worst choice but in my experience it is harder to find than the 2003 despite the greater quantity graded. This coin grades very well; hardly anything gets less than a PF69 and there are quite a few NGC-graded PF70s. This coin is not always well struck, though. Platinum is a much harder metal than silver or gold and small coins like this can be a little mushy.
