Peter Anthony: Like the 1982 the 1983 1/10 oz. gold 10 Yuan Panda’s design is the work of master artist Mr. Chen Jian. The family resemblance is clear with Mr. Chen’s reliance on simple lines. The 1983 1/10 oz. gold 10 Yuan Panda is a better date in its series. Its mintage of 82,000 is close to that of the 1984 10 Yuan gold but it is a much scarcer coin. Many of the smaller Pandas were very popular when set into jewelry and that may partly account for this coin’s scarcity.

Almost all of the coins graded so far are MS-69s with a few below that and a few above. So this coin doesn’t tend to have condition problems.
