p>Peter Anthony: The 1992 10 Yuan 1/10 oz. Small Date gold Panda features the image of a young Panda climbing in the treetops. It is one of the five B.U. gold Panda coins minted for the year. Like many Pandas from this decade the 1992 gold Small Date is by no means a common coin. There are two major varieties of the 1992 gold Pandas: Large Date and Small Date. The Small Date coins were struck at the Shenyang Mint while the Large date are Shanghai Mint products. Perhaps the most notable feature of the 1992 Large and Small Dates is how difficult it is to tell them apart.
Unconserved 1992 Pandas often have red spots. The place most likely to show wear or rub is the Panda’s head and torso. The fields are also areas for concern. On the Temple of Heaven side the fields, as usual, are susceptible to marks. With the exception of red spots the 1992 Small Date Pandas are usually well-struck and attractive. The most prevalent grade is MS-69.
