NGC Expert Comments:
“Beautiful coin in a beautiful size” is how libertad1998 describes the 2 Onza, the two-ounce silver version of the popular one-ounce bullion coin. The 2 Onza sports a 48mm diameter, expanding on the popular “crown”-size coin’s 38.61mm. We would love to see a silver eagle this size. The downside to a larger coin, however, is more surface area for contact marks as libertad1998 explains in the difficulty in finding high grade coins. That combined with poor handling and packaging means many of the issues before 2012 top out in MS 69 and even MS 69s are scarce. Libertad1998’s 1997 MS 69 coin is one of only four in that top grade!
